Abstract

The aims of study are to find out the effectiveness of the PORPE (Predict,
Organize, Rehearse, Practice, and Evaluate) method in improving reading compre
hension among XII Grade TKJ 1 students at SMK Bina Patria 1 Sukoharjo during
the 2023/2024 academic year. The primary objectives of the research are to assess
the impact of the PORPE method on students' reading comprehension abilities and
to determine whether this method can be effectively integrated into the teaching pr
actices of vocational high school educators.
The research employs a quasi-experimental design, involving both a contr
ol group and an experimental group. The experimental group was taught using the
PORPE method, while the control group received traditional instruction. Data wer
e collected through pre-tests and post-tests administered to both groups, and the re
sults were analyzed using descriptive and inferential statistics to evaluate the effec
tiveness of the PORPE method.
The findings indicate a significant improvement in the reading comprehen
sion skills of students in the experimental group compared to the control group. in
this case students reading comprehension skills, obtain the expected results in lear
ning by applying the porpe strategy. The average class score was 80,7 from 70,9 t
o 83. From Pre-Test to Post-Test 1 increased to 13.8%, Post-Test 1 to Post-Test 2
was an increase of 28 %. Thus, it can be concluded that the application of the porp
e strategy can help students understand reading optimally.
The application of the Porpe strategy in reading comprehension skills is su
itable for implementation in Vocational High Schools, This suggests that the POR
PE method is an effective instructional strategy for enhancing reading comprehens
ion in vocational high school students especially in English Class skill reading bec
ause the steps in the porpe strategy can help students in reading comprehension. T
he study concludes with recommendations for educators to consider integrating th
e PORPE method into their teaching practices to foster better reading outcomes.
