Abstract
Globally, life skills are defined as the skills, knowledge, values and attitudes that a person needs to be successful in facing everyday life; take effective action based on informed and autonomous decisions; and achieving quality of life goals. Reading is one of the most important skills students must master if they want to be successful in school, work, and everyday life. That is also the focus of the YKAB Surakarta disability school. This is an
asocial foundation that aims to glorify children with special needs with the support of parents and through the role of the community. At the elementary school level, teachers prioritize reading and writing because by reading and writing they can more easily learn other fields of
study. However, it is unimaginable if students experience visual impairment or blindness. To raise the issue of how reading skills are for the blindness at YAKB Surakarta, the author analyzes the reading skills for the blindness at YKAB Surakarta. Researchers will reveal the results to ten students and one teacher by interviewing respondents and using a checklist table to assess questions in the validity test. The analytical results of this study show differences in enthusiasm, highlighting the importance of a tailored approach to English education that meets multiple student requirements and preferences. The application of reading skills for the blind at YKAB (Welfare Foundation for Children with Special Needs) apart from helping students learn English, it is necessary to know the important role played by two important elements such as Braille textbooks and Braille textbooks. the guidance and support of a professional mentor proves to be a major asset in helping all students navigate the intricacies of English reading.
