ABSTRACT
Amelia Yossi Ovita. NIM 2251700161. The Relationship Between Self-Efficacy
and Treatment Adherence in Hemodialysis Patients at Nitipuran Hemodialysis
Clinic, Yogyakarta. Thesis. Faculty of Public Health and Health Sciences,
Veteran Bangun Nusantara University, Sukoharjo.
Hemodialysis patients often face significant challenges in maintaining regular
and continuous care. Based on an initial survey of 10 patients, it was found that 6
patients experienced self-efficacy issues. Of these 6 patients, 4 frequently missed or
were reluctant to attend dialysis sessions due to prioritizing their work, while 2 felt
they lacked family support and were unable to manage transportation for
hemodialysis. Adherence to treatment regimens is crucial to prevent complications
and improve their quality of life.
The study aimed to analyze the relationship between self-efficacy and
treatment adherence in hemodialysis patients at Nitipuran Hemodialysis Clinic,
Yogyakarta.
This was a quantitative study using a cross-sectional approach. The
population consisted of 168 individuals, and the sample size was determined using
the Slovin formula with a margin of error of 0.05, resulting in 119 participants. Data
collection for the self-efficacy variable was carried out using the General Self-
Efficacy Scale (GSE) questionnaire, and for the adherence variable, the End-Stage
Renal Disease Adherence Questionnaire (ESRD-AQ) was used. Data analysis
involved univariate and bivariate analyses using the Spearman Rho test. The results
showed that 46.2% of respondents had high self-efficacy, and the majority (72.3%)
were adherent. The study concluded that there is a significant relationship between
self-efficacy and treatment adherence, with a significance value of (p = 0.004 <
0.05). Based on these results, it is recommended that routine monitoring of patient
adherence be conducted with periodic evaluations to assess the effectiveness of
interventions.
