Abstract

The aims of the research are to explain the improvement of students’ speaking skill after using Scaffolding Talk Method and to explain the implementation of Scaffolding Talk Method at XI PPLG 1 of SMK Muhammadiyah 1 Sukoharjo.
The research using Classroom Action Research was carried at XI PPLG 1 of SMK Muhammadiyah 1 Sukoharjo and the sample consists of 31 students. The data were collected by using observation sheets, interview, questionnaires, tests, and documentation. The analyzing data used quantitative and qualitative data.
The Scaffolding Talk method can improve students' speaking skills. This can be seen from the data which shows that in the pre-test the total score was 2100, mean score was 67.74, with 29% percentage (9 students) who passed the passing grade, in post-test 1 the total score was 2290, mean score was 73.87 with 45% percentage (14 students) who passed the passing grade, and in post-test 2 the total score was 2470, mean score 79.67 with 94% percentage (29 students) who passed the passing grade. From the data above, it shows that the implementation of the Scaffolding Talk Method to teach students' speaking skills by grouping students with ZPD and various assistance provided by the researcher can increase students’ self-confidence and be supportive in learning.
