Globalization has opened borders to facilitate the flow of
knowledge, culture, ideas, technology, and resources
across the globe, thereby promoting limitless worldwide
interconnectivity (Steger, 2017). With the increasing
global interconnectedness, language becomes crucial as a
medium of communication. However, the number of
world languages is significantly large, around 7,000,
while only a few hold status as international languages
(UNESCO, 2024). UNESCO used to recognize a limited
number of world languages by declaring six official
languages, including English, French, Arabic, Chinese,
Russian, and Spanish. Later, UNESCO recognizes other
world languages for their contributions to global
education, culture, and communication. The other four
official UNESCO international languages currently
recognized are Hindi, Italian, Portuguese, and Indonesian
(Hariyadi, 2023).
